Child Neglect and Abuse

At Perrin Law, we demand justice for those sometimes unable to speak up. With more than 20 years of child neglect and abuse experience, we serve child and adult survivors of child abuse. This includes mental, physical and sexual abuse. We even work to legally remedy situations in which a child is hurt via indirect circumstances, such as through improper supervision.

The Michigan Department of Human Services defines child abuse as “harm or threatened harm to a child's health or welfare that occurs through non-accidental physical or mental injury, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or maltreatment, by a parent, a legal guardian, or any other person responsible for the child's health or welfare or by a teacher, a teacher's aide, or a member of the clergy.” The organization says child neglect is “harm or threatened harm to a child's health or welfare by a parent, legal guardian, or any other person responsible for the child's health or welfare that occurs through either of the following:

• Negligent treatment, including the failure to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, or medical care.
• Placing a child at an unreasonable risk to the child's health or welfare by failure of the parent, legal guardian, or other person responsible for the child's health or welfare to intervene to eliminate that risk when that person is able to do so and has, or should have, knowledge of the risk.”

 Neglect and abuse can negatively impact a child into their adult life. By taking legal action, we work to lessen the pain a survivor experiences. Coming forward can be difficult, but at Perrin Law, we handle each unique case with sensitivity and discretion. We help those in situations where the perpetrator has been charged and those looking to bring a case against someone who has not yet been formally charged.
